How do you get your caffeine? Coffee versus Tea

If there’s one thing all of us business people and writers alike have in common, it’s that we can’t get everything we need to do done on willpower alone. With a Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts on every corner, we areΒ definitelyΒ a coffee culture but tea is also aΒ popularΒ pick-me up.

Personally, while I will sometimes have a small cup of coffee if that’s what’s been made, theΒ caffeineΒ in coffee messes me up (instead of waking me up, it makes me feel like I’m having a panic attack) so I rarely drink coffee. But I drink a TON of tea, black in the morning, green later in the day and then white or herbal at night.

Of course, there are always exceptions (my brother pounds carbonated energy drinks all day) but tea and coffee do seem toΒ reignΒ as the most popular.

So, when you need a pick-me-up, which do you reach for?

On this topic, here’s a great infographic about the health benefits and disadvantages of both tea and coffee.

At the risk of making myself sound like a total wreck, I also can’t drink carbonation so soda is right out. But, man, I really miss it sometimes. Diet Vanilla Coke used to be my jam!!

I have 1 or 2 cups of coffee in the morning – Dunkin’s preferred over Charbuck’s – with non-dairy creamer (lactose intolerant) and Equal. I know, I know – purists will see all that as a sacrilege, but to each his or her own πŸ™‚

I drink decaf coffee or herbal/decaf tea in the afternoons. A lot depends on what’s available in the office kitchen. Every place I work/consult is different, so I have to be flexible. I don’t take in caffeine after 2PM, otherwise I’m up half the night. I like all kinds of diet soda, but usually drink caffeine free varieties when they’re available. In the winter, I sometimes have hot chocolate at night. In the summer, I often start the day with ice coffee.

My only personal strangeness is that I really don’t like milk in my tea, the very idea of it grosses me out for some reason. So I always drink it “black” which seems funny when its green or white tea. πŸ™‚

Okay, Hillary, you’re certainly healthier than I am, but I’m wagering I’m more awake πŸ™‚ Pretty sure you know coffee is my drink of choice–I down one pot between about 11 am and 5 pm, not caring how old and murky it gets as long as it stays hot and goes the job. Then after typically pulling my dead ass off the couch after the 9th inning or movie end credits I’ve just slept through, I brew another pot and keep on drinking from about 11 pm to 5 am (Jeeze, that almost sounds like a schedule!). Believe it or not I’m actually better than I used to be as I don’t usually pay for any more coffee whenever I’m actually out and about in between those two pots!

Cliff, I actually had a cup of coffee just five minutes ago because I wanted to experiment with putting hot chocolate in it. It was not as good as my brain thought it would be.

My husband drinks 15 cups of coffee a day so I understand how it is. πŸ™‚
