I got a question about this new Whine Seller feature within 24 hours of setting it up so I figured this would be a good blog topic since there was definitely interest.

In this age of social networking, you want to make it as easy as possible for your readers to share your blog posts with others. The easier your posts are to share, the more likely they will share them and the more they share them, the more traffic you get. There are a lot of plugins out there that encourage your readers to email a post, submit it to digg, stumble upon, etc but I found one excellent one that does all of the above.

I was looking for a plugin to allow my readers to email a post to friends with a single click and, instead, hit the motherlode with a great plugin called Sociable. If you look at the bottom of this post, you will see this plugin in action right now (if you are reading this in a feed reader, pop over to the site and you will see what I mean). Each of those tiny icons below is a one click way for you to submit the current post to the site of your choice. For instance, click the little blue “t” and you can Tweet this post to your followers on Twitter. The little Facebook “f” easily shares this post for you on Facebook. Hit the Yahoo buttons to buzz this post up on Yahoo. You get the idea.

In addition to the option to share the post with social networking sites, it also gives you the option to include a “Email this post to a friend” button (that’s the first one in my list below) as well as a “print this page” button which I did not enable but could be useful in many applications.

The selection of social networking sites is huge and you can select as many or as few as you wish. Just about every site I have ever heard of (and quite a few I hadn’t ever heard of!) are all available so you have a wide selection.

Sociable is free to download from WordPress direct at: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/sociable/

(PS: If you are running the new WordPress 2.7, go to the plugin screen and click the new “Add New” option. Then just search for Sociable and let WordPress install the plugin for you! It’s a really neat new feature.)
