When I showed my brother this site a few weeks after I found it he said, and I quote:
“Hillary, when you find something amazing like this you are supposed to tell me about it right away. This is not something you keep to yourself!”
So I guess you could say that I am writing this post on his advice. I cannot speak for everyone but I get a lot of strange file formats that cross my plate. People email me images, videos, documents, audio files and all other strange things in file formats that I have never even heard of half the time, let alone have a program that will convert it.
I used to go to Download.com and get a freeware program each time I needed to convert something until I found the amazing site that is Zamzar. Bookmark this site, trust me. This is one of those sites that as soon as you start using it you wonder how you ever did without it. I’m not getting any referral commission or anything for this post, I just want to get the word out about a really cool website.
Have some music in weird formats that iTunes cannot accept? Zamzar can fix that.
Have an old Microsoft Works document from high school that you cannot seem to open in anything? Zamzar is on it.
Want to convert your video file to something that YouTube accepts or do you want to download videos that you see on YouTube and then convert the format all in one step? Just give Zamzar the link and it will take care of it.
Zamzar can even create a PDF from your doc file for use on sites like Lulu or CreateSpace.
What I love about this site is that it is not only totally free, they don’t even make you register to use the site. You also don’t need to download a thing. You just upload your file (or files since you can do it in bulk), pick what you want it converted to, input your email and they email it to you when you are done.
I also like the ability to download YouTube videos. Now, this part can be very easily abused so be good, people. But if there is something unusual that you want to save on your computer, there is no easier way.
Anyway, consider the word spread. Even if you don’t have anything to convert right now, trust me, bookmark it. You’ll be amazed how many programs it replaces and how often you will use it.
