While there are no adBrite ads on the site right now, I’ve used them in the past and was a fan of their service as a Google Adsense alternative. I was very surprised and saddened to see this in my inbox today:
Dear adBrite Publisher,
Over the last few weeks, adBrite and its management have been evaluating the go-forward plan for the business. Given market conditions and certain financial liabilities, in working with our lenders, we have decided to cease operations on Feb 1, 2013.
This is a difficult decision for all of us at adBrite. However, after much deliberation this seems to be the best course of action despite the impact it will have on all the employees, clients and partners who helped build this business. There will be a team in place as needed to assist with winding down.
Thank you for being part of the adBrite community.
The adBrite Team
Announcing that you’re closing three days before you do? Cutting it so close has got to screw over existing advertisers and publishers who now need to scramble to find alternatives. That must have been some meeting!
Will this effect you and your business? Have you used adBrite in the past? Are you sad to see them go?

Hey Hillary
I was using AdBrite and for the last 2 weeks had no success in getting responses to my emails. It started with a small but unauthorized billing to my account in mid January. It was credited back within a few days after numerous unanswered emails and a call to my credit card company. Then just a 404 link to the website. Literally like a shutdown back in the dotcom days.
Ugh, sorry to hear that. It really does seem like they packed up in the dead of night and snuck away, doesn’t it?
