I took Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake pretty hard. Demi Moore and Bruce Willis? Loved them too. I was really rooting for Amy Poehler and Will Arnett.

But eBay and PayPal? Man, who saw that coming? They seemed so happy together!

You know, I feel like maybe I should have strong feelings about this, maybe be digging into the old ice cream freezer for a little comfort food over this news but I’m feeling… nothing. At the risk of making myself sound incredibly old in internet years, I’ve been doing this long enough to remember when they were separate companies before eBay purchased PayPal. Honestly, eBay always did a poor job of integrating the two sites, particularly with the separate logins, so they always felt like separate companies to us sellers whatever it was like on eBay’s back-end. And if it means more opportunities for both, whatever the heck that means because I can’t see how this helps eBay, only how it helps PayPal get into more marketplaces, that’s got to be a good thing in the long run because more e-commerce options is always a positive thing for sellers.

Right now, I don’t know how this is going to effect selling on eBay or accepting PayPal as a payment method but I’m not exactly freaking out about it. They were separate companies before and that worked out just fine.

That said, I’m sure there’s already a popular conspiracy theory or two out there that I’m missing so please, feel free to clue me in on how I should be feeling about this…
